Wendy is a junior park ranger at Brighton Rock State park. She’s the kind of girl who can’t seem to get her act together - always late, always losing things, etc etc. When she volunteers to hang flyers on an advanced trail so her friend can flirt with a boy at the info desk, she isn’t taken seriously. That’s because her friends know she’s an “indoor kid” & couldn’t handle the job. Against all logic & good sense Wendy insists on taking the job. Things seem to be going fine, until Wendy realizes she has gotten incredibly lost. While she’s dealing with that she discovers a dead body.

It’s finally springtime, so we at Bloodlust Ventures have decided to review another wilderness movie next. This time it’s going to be 2013’s Willow Creek, a found footage Bigfoot picture that we think is way underseen. It’s available on Prime, so we hope you check it out before the next episode.

Here’s a link for the website I mention at the end of the episode: The Unseen. Thank you again to our lovely listener/commenters for the tip. The list is very handy, as it’s pretty much every good horror movie that has come out in recent years, plus some serviceable & meh ones. As far as movies we haven’t mentioned on the show, I would recommend Jug Face, Coherence, Honeymoon & Cropsey. Any not mentioned that we should run out & see immediately? Let us know.

Imagine you take a job at a state park and one day, while you’re going about your business through the woods, you stumble across a probable crime scene. Not exactly the start of an awesome summer vacation. Next up, we’ll be watching Body at Brighton Rock, directed by Roxanne Benjamin (Southbound, XX). Join us in a week for our review.

Director: Lee Cronin

Writer: Lee Cronin and Stephen Shields

Synopsis: Sarah is a young mother who flees a bad marriage with her elementary school aged son, Chris, to a new town & a house at the end of a creepy forest. Chris is upset & confused about why his dad didn’t move with them, & one day he runs from a fight with his mother into the forest. While Sarah is searching for him she runs across the titular hole in the ground, which turns out to be quite the understatement, as it’s fricking enormous. After this discovery, & a run-in with the town crazy lady who “accidentally” ran her son down with her car after claiming he wasn’t really her son, Sarah begins to suspect that Chris has been replaced by a look-alike who came out of the hole.

Next up, Jordan Peele’s much anticipated horror offering, Us. With the huge blowup of Get Out, we have very high expectations for this next one and so far, it sounds like it’s a hit. Join us next time!

Next up, the gang just remembered it’s Women in Horror month, because fuck is it February already?! Luckily, there’s a new film out that’s made by a woman, has three female leads, & looks VERY interesting. It’s called Braid, & hopefully you’re as intrigued as we are to watch it. It’s available on streaming platforms right meow.

str2_sneak1012_mt.jpg

Writer/Director: M Night Shyamalan

Synopsis: Kevin Wendell Crumb’s monstrous personality The Beast is still on the loose, terrorizing Philadelphia. Luckily the city has a hero looking out for them, one who has been dubbed The Overseer. We know him as David Dunne, who has been working in conjunction with his now grown son to keep the streets safe. Of course, the powers that be do not condone vigilante justice, so when The Overseer finally tracks down The Beast their tussle attracts the attention of the authorities, who promptly toss both of them in a mental hospital. Enter Sarah Paulson, a doctor who specializes in the delusion that one is a superhero. She has been given the opportunity to treat her new patients for three days with the goal of getting them to realize they are just ordinary men. But wait! There’s a third party in the mix. Namely, Elijah Price has been a resident of this hospital since we left him at the end of Unbreakable, living in a drug-induced stupor. Now that we have all the ingredients we just mix & serve.

Next up, the gang checks out one of Amy’s favorite films of 2018, the exceedingly weird Possum. Rent it on demand & we’ll see you back here in two weeks to discuss.
