Horror movie reviews artfully conducted by four classy broads and one token dude.
76 | 47 Meters Down
For this episode, we are joined by Soren Narnia (@SorenNarnia), friend of The Bloodlust and mastermind behind Knifepoint Horror. If you haven't listened to Knifepoint Horror yet, do yourself a favor and go do it.
Director: Johannes Roberts
Writers: Johannes Roberts and Ernest Riera
Synopsis: While on a tropical vacation, sisters Kate & Lisa decide to throw caution to the wind and join Captain Matthew Modine and his crew on a rusted and very unsafe-looking cage-diving adventure. Shockingly, things go terribly wrong and the sisters soon find themselves trapped in a cage at the bottom of the ocean (with very little oxygen and a gang of bloodthirsty sharks).
Next up, it's Hunk Fest 2017 as we review (and Amy drools over) The Bad Batch, starring Jason Momoa and Keanu Reeves. It probably stars other folks, too, but they aren't as hunky so they're harder to remember...
Join us next time as we review the cannibal lovestory, The Bad Batch, by director Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night).
75 | We Go On
Writers/Directors: Jesse Holland & Andy Mitton
Synopsis: Desperate for a cure for his Thanatophobia, Miles places an ad in the newspaper offering $30k to anyone who can show him definitive proof of life after death. Out of thousands of responses, mostly from wackadoos & people looking to scam him, he’s able to narrow the list of prospects down to three, with the help of his pragmatic but rather bitter mother. Miles & his mom meet each person - a scientist, a medium & an Indiana Jones type - with varying degrees of success, but it’s a wild card contender who ends up showing Miles something that makes him wish he’d never gone looking for answers.
Next up, we'll be satisfying your "summer shark movie" cravings with a review of the heavily anticipated (ok, maybe not so much...) ocean thriller, 47 Meters Down. Did we mention this is starring pop music darling, Mandy Moore? Well, it is.
74 | It Comes at Night
Writer/Director: Trey Edward Shults
Synopsis: A family struggles to get by in their remote home after a mysterious illness shuts down the rest of the country. Our first introduction to this family is one that perfectly illustrates this brutal, uncertain new world in which they're living. When they decide to allow another family to take shelter in their home with them, we are left to wonder whether it's actually any safer inside the house.
Next up, we'll be reviewing We Go On, a movie from the creators of underappreciated horror flick, Yellowbrickroad. We're pretty excited to finally see another movie from these folks so join us, won't you?
73 | A Dark Song
Writer/Director: Liam Gavin
Synopsis: A grieving woman hires an occultist to help her perform a ritual, which will allow her to speak with her guardian angel, who will grant her one request: to speak to her dead son. Or so we are lead to believe. Unfortunately, she's not completely upfront about her motives and it causes more than a few kinks in the plan.
Next time you hear from us, we'll be finally discussing what, exactly, comes at night. This new flick from A24, which is actually called It Comes at Night and stars Joel Edgerton, is getting a fair amount of hype so, if it's playing near you, go check it out and then meet us back here in a couple weeks!
72 | Train to Busan
Writer/Director: Yeon Sang-ho
Synopsis: A busy hedge fund manager agrees to take his young daughter to visit her mother on her birthday. On the way to the train station they notice lots of emergency & army vehicles, but don’t pay much attention. Too bad, b/c a viral outbreak is causing people to rise from the dead & go after the living. And one of them just got on the train with them. In addition to the father-daughter team we meet a very pregnant woman & her husband, a high school baseball team & their one cheerleader, & two elderly sisters, among others. Will they make it to their destination, & what will be waiting for them when they get there?
Director Yeon Sang-ho made an earlier, animated prequel to Train to Busan called Seoul Station, which is said to take place one day prior to the events in Train to Busan.
For our next episode we'll be reviewing Irish film A Dark Song, about Aleister Crowley-style magic rituals. Sounds intriguing, right? Check it out on VOD & join us back here in two weeks to discuss.
71 | The Void
**Writer/Director**: Jeremy Gillespie & Steven Kostanski
**Synopsis**: Sheriff’s deputy, Daniel, is quietly trying to wait out the end of his shift when he notices an injured man stumbling out of the woods. After taking the man to a nearly empty hospital, on the verge of closing forever, a series of incredibly stranges events begin to take place. It's difficult to determine which is the bigger danger, the inexplicable monster roaming the halls, or the ominous group of costumed, knife-wielding figures, surrounding the hospital, preventing anyone from excaping. You'll have to settle-in and buckle-down for this movie because shit gets crazy (in the most wonderful way possible).

“With ‘The Void’ we will combine our film-making talents and create an unparalleled horror experience filled with terrifying visuals and shocking creature effects. Intended as a contained story, ‘The Void’ takes place in a single location with a small cast. It features a unique array of bloody, visceral practical effects and nightmarish creature design. ‘The Void’ will fuse the body terror of ‘The Fly’ and ‘The Thing’ with the surreal fear of ‘The Shining’ and ‘The Exorcist’, and will evoke the tone and mood of the works of John Carpenter, and J-Horror films such as ‘The Grudge’. While we are influenced by these horror classics, ‘The Void’ will not be a deconstruction of old tropes, but an original concept that will make use of the practical creature effects and prosthetic skills that we have been honing since 2005 to tell a completely contemporary story.”
Make sure you have your tickets because next time we'll be reviewing the South Korean zombie thriller, Train to Busan.
70 | The Blackcoat's Daughter
Writer/Director: Osgood Perkins

In a separate plot line we follow Joan, who appears to have escaped from a hospital of some kind. A good-intentioned couple offers her a ride, & we discover that their path seems to be heading in the direction of the boarding school.

As two of The Bloodlust crew can attest, working in an office can most certainly have it's downsides. If you have a list of office co-workers who drive you crazy, this movie may be a cathartic experience for you. If not, there's a good chance you'll still enjoy the movie being described as "Office Space meets Battle Royale." So join us next time when we review & discuss The Belko Experiment.
