Director/Writer: S. Craig Zahler

Synopsis: Four men (and three impressive mustaches) set out on a journey in the unforgiving Wild West to rescue a group of captives from some cave-dwelling cannibals.

41 | Spring

Directors: Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead

Writer: Justin Benson

Stars: Lou Taylor Pucci, Nadia Hilker, Vanessa Bednar

Synopsis: Finding himself in a personal tailspin following the death of his mother, Evan flees the US for the mediterannean beauty of Italy. At some point between enjoying the beautiful setting and putting up with his two loud, British pals, Evan sparks up a romance with an intelligent, gorgeous woman harboring a dark, primordial secret.

Coming up next...wait for it...it's The Witch. Considered by some to be "literally the most satanic experience outside of meeting satan himself," this movie has a lot of hype to live up to. If it ends up being a piece of shit, I don't know that Amy will ever recover from the disappointment (but she'll know how Jamie felt when she saw the movie Troy). So join us for episode 42 when we'll be talkin bout some witches.

21 | Lake Mungo

Lake Mungo

Lake Mungo

Lake Mungo
Director/Writer: Joel Anderson
Stars: Rosie Traynor, David Pledger, Martin Sharpe
Synopsis: Who killed Alice Palmer? Just kidding...sort of...
This is a Fauxdoc-style film, covering the events surrounding the death of 16-year old Alice Palmer. After going missing (we presume she drowned) during a family trip, Alice's body is eventually discovered floating in the water. Once this happens, the movie jumps from one subplot to the next as it attempts to discover what happened to her. The ending may not be exactly what you'd expect.

What'd we think of Lake Mungo?

Next time we'll be checking out The Taking of Deborah Logan, or "The Taking", as it was going to originally be called. It's a horror film from 2014, shot in the same fauxdoc (I just can't use "mockumentary" in a serious way) style as our last one, Lake Mungo. The "Documentary" the film is centered around is an exploration into the declining health of Alzheimers patient, Deborah Logan. The movie starts out as one would expect but things begin to decline, for the characters, pretty rapidly. Check out the trailer & then tune in for our discussion!

9 | The Babadook

The Babadook
Released: November 28, 2014
Director: Jennifer Kent
Writer: Jennifer Kent
Starring: Essie Davis, Noah Wiseman

Synopsis: A single mother, still plagued by her husband's untimely and violent death, struggles to free her son from his intense fear of a monster in the house. She soon realizes that his fears may be more than simple childhood fantasy.

If you're like me and want to know if one could possibly order a copy of The Babadook book, then you're in luck. The book, albeit a bit on the pricey side, is available to order here. I can think of some bratty kids I'd like to read it to...

(Out of 5 stars)

In this episode we spend a little time talking about the short film, Monster, which served as the inspiration for The Babadook. If you haven't seen it yet and want to check it out, we highly encourage it!

For our next movie, we will be covering American Mary, a film that touches on med school, student debt, and the world of underground body modification surgeries. This is not your typical horror movie but it's definitely worth the watch!
