83 | Leatherface
Directors: Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury
Writer: Seth M. Sherwood
Synopsis: The movie begins in the mid 1950's, where we learn the Sawyer family, headed up by matriarch Lili Taylor, is up to their usual shenanigans. But when they murder the daughter of a local deputy, he responds by doing the sensible thing & taking the minor Sawyer children into state custody. When chaos erupts at the state home, a handful of wards escape (along with a nurse, who is having a terrible first day) and now it's the local deputy's job to track them down.
Stephen King is just sooo hot right now and since we'd never want to be considered "un-hip," we'll be jumping on the King-wagon to review the recently released Gerald's Game, which is now streaming on Netflix.
81 | IT
Director: Andy Muschietti
Writer(s): Chase Palmer, Cary Fukunaga, Gary Dauberman
Synopsis: When kids start going missing in the town of Derry, a group of kids band together and discover that a sinister clown named Pennywise may be behind all of it.
Next up, we'll be seeing a movie that will, with any luck, be very upsetting and make us feel a bit funky all day. That's right, we're seeing Darren Aronofsky's newest movie, Mother!. Go see it, throw on some Danzing, and join us in two weeks for our review!
79 | Annabelle: Creation
Director: David F. Sandberg
Writer: Gary Dauberman
Synopsis: A group of orphans, & the nun who cares for them, are invited to live in the home of the Mullins (a dollmaker & his invalid wife) in the 1950s. Once there, the precocious girls discover the dollmaker’s sad history - that his young daughter, Bee, was killed in a tragic car accident a decade before.
The orphans begin to witness strange, paranormal events in the house, which seem to be related to a hideous doll found locked away in a secret space within the dead daughter’s "off-limits" bedroom. One of the girls in particular, Janice, is plagued with visitations by the doll & Bee’s spectre, who seem to have special plans for her. Will her best friend, Linda, be able to help her before it’s too late?
Join us next time when we'll be talking about The Devil's Candy. Or as we like to call it The Tale of Ethan Embry's Ever Shifting Wig. See you then!
78 | Killing Ground
Writer/Director: Damien Power
Synopsis: Young lovebirds, Ian and Sam, go on a romantic camping trip near a secluded waterfall. Their trip is cut short when they stumble across a horrible crime.
What do you guys think of our new theme music? Pretty cool, right? Big thanks to Peter Perfect for letting us use it.
Next up, we'll be seeing what all the fuss is about with this Annabelle sequel (or prequel?). It's getting solid reviews so we're curious enough to shell out $$ to see it in theaters.
77 | The Bad Batch
Writer/Director: Ana Lily Amirpour
Synopsis: We follow Arlen, a woman who's just been deemed part of the "Bad Batch", as she struggles to adapt and survive is this unforgiving and cannibalistic new world. Along the way she is helped, hindered or both by the men she meets, including King of the Studs Jason Momoa, Keaunu Reeves & and almost unrecognizable Jim Carey. Guess they all saw *A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night* & wanted in on that action. Can't say as I blame them. Unfortunately, Amirpour's follow-up suffers many of the same problems tht befall lauded filmmakers' second features. Oh well. Go get em next time, tiger!
Next up, it's the much buzzed-about new release Killing Ground, another brutal slasher from Australia. Just check out this trailer. It looks brutal as hell. Can. Not. Wait. Get it on demand & meet us back here to discuss. See you then!
76 | 47 Meters Down
For this episode, we are joined by Soren Narnia (@SorenNarnia), friend of The Bloodlust and mastermind behind Knifepoint Horror. If you haven't listened to Knifepoint Horror yet, do yourself a favor and go do it.
Director: Johannes Roberts
Writers: Johannes Roberts and Ernest Riera
Synopsis: While on a tropical vacation, sisters Kate & Lisa decide to throw caution to the wind and join Captain Matthew Modine and his crew on a rusted and very unsafe-looking cage-diving adventure. Shockingly, things go terribly wrong and the sisters soon find themselves trapped in a cage at the bottom of the ocean (with very little oxygen and a gang of bloodthirsty sharks).
Next up, it's Hunk Fest 2017 as we review (and Amy drools over) The Bad Batch, starring Jason Momoa and Keanu Reeves. It probably stars other folks, too, but they aren't as hunky so they're harder to remember...
Join us next time as we review the cannibal lovestory, The Bad Batch, by director Ana Lily Amirpour (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night).
73 | A Dark Song
Writer/Director: Liam Gavin
Synopsis: A grieving woman hires an occultist to help her perform a ritual, which will allow her to speak with her guardian angel, who will grant her one request: to speak to her dead son. Or so we are lead to believe. Unfortunately, she's not completely upfront about her motives and it causes more than a few kinks in the plan.
Next time you hear from us, we'll be finally discussing what, exactly, comes at night. This new flick from A24, which is actually called It Comes at Night and stars Joel Edgerton, is getting a fair amount of hype so, if it's playing near you, go check it out and then meet us back here in a couple weeks!
70 | The Blackcoat's Daughter
Writer/Director: Osgood Perkins
Synopsis: Students, Kat & Rose, are left behind at their catholic boarding school over break after their parents fail to pick them up. Alone with only a couple nuns to look after them, Rose begins to suspect something might be wrong with the quiet, kinda odd Kat.
In a separate plot line we follow Joan, who appears to have escaped from a hospital of some kind. A good-intentioned couple offers her a ride, & we discover that their path seems to be heading in the direction of the boarding school.
