Bloodlust Bites: Bone Tomahawk

We're pleased to introduce the first episode of Bloodlust Bites, where one or two of our fearless crew brings you short takes on horror films that didn't make it onto the show. Enjoy!

Director/Writer: S. Craig Zahler

Stars: Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, Quite a few horses

Synopsis: Four men (and three impressive mustaches) set out on a journey in the unforgiving Wild West to rescue a group of captives from some cave-dwelling cannibals.

42 | The Witch

Directors: Robert Eggers

Writer: Robert Eggers

Stars: Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie

Synopsis: Set in the 1630's, a deeply religious family struggles to maintain their faith and sanity against the forces of witchcraft, occultism, and Black Phillip.

It's safe to say we're now in love with Black Phillip...

Next we'll be checking out Southbound, an indie-horror anthology directed (and produced) by Radio Silence. For those of you keeping track, Radio Silence is responsible for one of our favorite V/H/S segments, 10/31/98, and we've been pretty excited to see what else they've been up to (haven't gotten around to checking out Devil's Due yet...). We're excited to watch & discuss this one!

41 | Spring

Directors: Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead

Writer: Justin Benson

Stars: Lou Taylor Pucci, Nadia Hilker, Vanessa Bednar

Synopsis: Finding himself in a personal tailspin following the death of his mother, Evan flees the US for the mediterannean beauty of Italy. At some point between enjoying the beautiful setting and putting up with his two loud, British pals, Evan sparks up a romance with an intelligent, gorgeous woman harboring a dark, primordial secret.

Coming up next...wait for it...it's The Witch. Considered by some to be "literally the most satanic experience outside of meeting satan himself," this movie has a lot of hype to live up to. If it ends up being a piece of shit, I don't know that Amy will ever recover from the disappointment (but she'll know how Jamie felt when she saw the movie Troy). So join us for episode 42 when we'll be talkin bout some witches.

40 | The Boy

Director: William Brent Bell

Writer: Stacey Menear

Stars: Lauren Cohan, Rupert Evans, James Russell

Synopsis: A woman with a troubled past takes a job in England as a nanny. However, when she arrives, she is surprised to learn that instead of a little human boy, her charge is actually a creepy, porcelain doll. She's required to follow a very specific set of rules to keep from upsetting young Brahmsy. When strange things begin to happen around the house, Greta realizes maybe there's more to this little doll than just a creepy face.

We're well on our way to the big 5-0! Since we still have to wait a bit until The Witch comes to theaters, we're going to cover the 2015 scifi-romance-horror film, Spring. Did we love it? Did we hate it? You'll have to tune it to find out.

Synopsis: Distraught after the disappearance of her sister, Sara travels to Japan's Aokigahara "Suicide Forest" in order to find her.

You may have noticed we were supposed to review The Boy for our last episode and did not. We aparently are below-average calendar users because we didn't realize it wouldn't be out yet. However, now we are sure and, if you join us next time, you will hear our review of The Boy.
